The City of Dawson had an EOL (end of life) Nortel based phone system and put out an RFP to provide phone services to all the municipal buildings in a way that upgraded the feature set as well as provided cost savings. Total North’s response included a Digium Astricks Switchvox phone system (over thirty-five handsets, one conference phone in five office building locations within one single LAN which Total North linked via wireless radios to maximize Telco costs savings). On top of that, the city upgraded to a PoE switching platform, Next Generation Firewall as well an ADSL bonding appliance that doubled the network bandwidth available.
The installed Digium Switchvox phone platform combined a full feature set with usability and reliability. Total North offers monthly support and service via a SLA contract which offers 24/7 support and proactively monitors the health of the system.
Part of the scope of the project involved an entire overhaul of the structured cabling platform. Total North firmly believes that a network that is clean and labelled correctly leads to higher reliability and more responsive troubleshooting activity.
The City of Dawson upgraded the phone system through Total North Communications in 2013. The transition was very smooth and the service has been excellent. This upgrade has resulted in significant savings on our telephone service. Joanne Van Nostrand, CFO
